Two lawyers from Valmiera, Edgars Atlācis and Agnese Kauce, sat on the dock alongside him. The court of first instance found all three guilty and fined them.
Jakovins and Kauce were fined ten minimum monthly salaries, or €7,400, and Atlacis was fined nine minimum monthly salaries, or €6,660.
Jakovins did not comment further after the hearing, except to say that he planned to appeal. In his last word at the hearing, he had asked to be acquitted.
