
On 1 January 2024, there were 229 million women and 220 million men in the EU. This corresponds to a ratio of 104.4 women per 100 men, which means that there were 4.4% more women than men.
There were more women than men in all EU countries, except Malta, Sweden, Luxembourg, and Slovenia. The highest ratio of all was found in Latvia, which has 15.5% more women than men – more than three times the EU average rate.
