"Increased interest" includes a request to explain the editorial choices made by the media. So far, two media companies have received such requests from KNAB – the investigative journalism centre Re:Baltica and the news agency LETA. The Latvian Journalists' Association points out that such attention from law enforcement agencies poses risks to independent journalism.
The KNAB, however, explains that the bureau is obliged to respond to complaints and carry out such checks.
