Last weekend, Daugavpils celebrated its birthday with a variety of activities. Residents were invited to display Daugavpils city flags on their buildings for the first time. The tourist information centre also distributed free flags to be placed on cars.
A total of 3,000 flags were distributed, according to Līga Rudzīte-Besakirska, head of the Tourism Department: "No one had expected such an enthusiastic response, because it was a last-minute idea."
