Builders of the Barcelona Temple of the Holy Family (Sagrada Familia) have installed the first part of the cross on its central tower. After this, the structure reached a height of 162.91 meters, thus becoming the tallest temple in the world. This record had been held since 1890 by Ulm Cathedral (a church that began construction in the 14th century and was completed in the 19th century), which has a height of 161 meters. The Temple of the Holy Family, designed by architect Antoni Gaudí, has been under construction for over 100 years, but its main building is expected to be fully completed next year. In the coming months, the remaining parts of the cross will be installed on the central tower of Jesus Christ — and after that, its height will reach 172 meters. The first stone of the Temple of the Holy Family was laid in 1882, and the following year, its construction was led by the then-young architect Antoni Gaudí. This church then became the main project of his life: he completely redesigned the original design of the structure, which was supposed to be a relatively modest temple built on charitable donations from believers.
