Businessman dubbed 'Zelensky's wallet' accused of 'nuclear' corruption

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) conducted searches at Mindich's residence after he left the country as part of a corruption case. Along with Mindich, searches were also carried out at the Ministry of Justice and the former Minister of Energy (2021–2025) Herman Halushchenko. NABU and SAP investigated the corruption case in the energy sector for 15 months, collecting 1,000 hours of audio recordings during this time. According to law enforcement, participants in a high-level criminal organization established a large-scale corruption scheme at the state enterprise 'Energoatom' (operator of three Ukrainian nuclear power plants). In fact, the management of the strategic enterprise with an annual income of over 200 billion UAH (4.1 billion euros) was carried out not by official officials, but by outsiders who had no formal authority but took on the role of 'watchers'. Mindich involved the former deputy head of the State Property Fund, who later became an advisor to the Minister of Energy (Ihor Myroniuk), and the executive director for physical protection and security of 'Energoatom' (Dmytro Basov). The funds obtained were legalized by a separate office in the center of Kyiv; Zelensky cautiously supported the investigation against Mindich. Observers write that the President of Ukraine has two options for action. **The first** - to come to terms with the gradual loss of real power and the imprisonment of close associates (not only Mindich). **The second** - to launch a counterattack against NABU and SAP through the Security Service of Ukraine, accusing their leaders and key employees of treason and working for Russia. Meanwhile, the internal opposition has been revitalized - the 'European Solidarity' party, led by former President Petro Poroshenko, has initiated a vote of no confidence in the Ukrainian government.
