Born in Rīga in 1942, Alberts' family emigrated to the United States in 1945, and he lived there for most of his life.
Alberts was known worldwide for his portrait photographs of American actors, musicians, and public figures. He photographed writer and poet Charles Bukowski, musicians David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, film director Steven Spielberg, and other well-known figures.
