The incident occurred on December 26. The suspicious young man was noticed in a café in the airport's waiting area — he had ordered coffee and snacks and had been sitting there for about six hours with a laptop on the table. Airport security staff found a jamming device on the Ukrainian that operated in frequency ranges reserved for air communication and navigation. "Ukrainian citizen Ilya S. attempted to use radio equipment operating in frequency ranges designated for aviation communication and aviation radar," explained prosecutor Piotr Skiba from the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office. According to the prosecutor's office, the Ukrainian could not explain what he was doing at the airport and why he needed the jammer. He was charged under the Polish Penal Code for attempting to take actions that threaten the safety of air traffic and was arrested for a month on December 27. According to sources from the newspaper, the detainee also contradicted himself in his statements. "One day he claimed to be a soldier, and the next day he said he was a businessman living in Canada. He also could not explain what he was doing in Poland, when he arrived here, and why," the source reported.
