Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which he leads, received the award in the category of "Best Orchestral Performance" for their recording of Olivier Messiaen's symphony "Turangalîla." The award was also given in the nomination for "Best Instrumental Solo in Classical Music" for the collaboration between Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra with world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma — for the recording of Dmitri Shostakovich's cello concerto. Prior to this, Nelsons had already been awarded three Grammy Awards. In 2016, he received the prestigious award for the recording of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's performance under his direction. The recording of Shostakovich's 10th Symphony, released by Deutsche Grammophon, titled "Shostakovich: Under Stalin's Shadow – Symphony No.10," won the award in the category of "Best Orchestral Performance." In 2017, Nelsons was again honored with an award for the recording of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's performance — this time for the album "Shostakovich: Under Stalin's Shadow – Symphonies Nos. 5, 8 & 9," also released by Deutsche Grammophon. In 2019, he, along with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, won a Grammy for the album "Shostakovich: Symphonies Nos. 4 & 11," winning in the category of "Best Orchestral Performance."
