Russia's current strikes on Ukraine's civilian energy infrastructure are 'effectively approaching genocide' - Rinkēvičs

According to the president, Russia's destruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure during the harsh winter months 'approaches yet another war crime or effectively genocide.' The politician noted that a diplomatic solution to the war initiated by Russia is not currently in sight, but he would be glad if he is mistaken in this assessment. Rinkēvičs reiterated that the main obstacle to achieving results in peace and ceasefire negotiations is Russia, which appears to be driven by hopes of complete subjugation of Ukraine and therefore does not seem ready for compromises. In the opinion of the Latvian politician, the West still has leverage in this conflict — for example, increasing funding and supplies to Ukraine, expanding sanctions against Russia, and intensifying diplomatic pressure. As reported, Russia is currently carrying out extremely active attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure this winter, regularly leaving hundreds of thousands of people without heat and electricity in severe frosts. On the front line, Russia is not achieving breakthrough successes.
