Iranian authorities reported that the F-15 was shot down. American media reported the rescue of one crew member. The second crew member is being sought on Saturday by both U.S. and Iranian forces. Iran also stated that an American A-10 attack aircraft was shot down over the Persian Gulf, while American media reported that the pilot was rescued. U.S. Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the loss of the F-15, however, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed that "the president has been informed." U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with NBC that the loss of the F-15 would not affect negotiations with Iran: "No, not at all. No, this is war."
