The Russian language is unofficially the second state language...

Veteran Latvian politician Alexander Kiršteins stated in an interview with TV-24 that the Russian language unofficially remains de facto the second state language in Latvia. "Just step out of public transport in Imanta or Zolitūde and you will hear what language is spoken there. Or look at what language the newspapers are mainly sold in at the Narvesen kiosk in Riga Airport," commented the Saeima deputy. Speaking about the decision of the Constitutional Court, the politician reminded that it will only come into effect in May 2027. "It may not even come into effect - we do not know what the ruling coalition will be after the elections," noted the parliamentarian.
