Siliņa: The Latvian language in public media needs to be further strengthened

According to the Prime Minister's Office, Siliņa believes that clarified regulation should allow public media to reach the audience when it is objectively necessary in the interests of national security and social cohesion. The Constitutional Court's ruling strengthens the role of the Latvian language as the sole state language in the public media space, Siliņa believes. As stated by the Constitutional Court, it is the legislator who, respecting the independence and editorial freedom of public media, must ensure a balanced protection of the Latvian language, the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, and national security in the creation of public media content.
