NEPLP received information from a competent state authority that the content posted on these websites contradicts the interests of the information space and national security of Latvia. Some of these websites disseminate one-sided and biased information about Russia's war against Ukraine, justify Russian military aggression, legitimize the affiliation of occupied and annexed Ukrainian territories to Russia, mobilize informational and public support for Russian military personnel involved in combat operations in Ukraine, and foster a sense of belonging and positive attitude towards Russia. According to the assessment of competent state authorities, this may negatively affect the cohesion of Latvian society, interethnic relations, understanding of values, residents' affiliation with a unified information space, as well as Latvia's solidarity and support for Ukraine regarding its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Similar decisions to restrict access to websites disseminating Russian propaganda have been made by NEPLP in the past.
