Ukrainian Negotiators Proposed to the U.S. to Name Part of Donbas Donnyland

The use of the name "Donnyland" for the devastated region of Ukraine may seem strange; however, it reflects a global reality in which governments appeal to Trump's ego to gain support from Washington, the publication notes. The name "Donnyland" was first suggested, partly in jest, by one of the Ukrainian negotiators, trying to persuade the American administration to take a tougher stance on Russia's territorial claims, three sources told the newspaper. Attempts by the Ukrainian side have not yet been successful, but the term "Donnyland" has since been used in negotiations, although it does not appear in official documents, writes the "New York Times." Ukrainian negotiators proposed that "Donnyland" not be under the full control of either side and that such a solution be presented as an achievement of Trump. This territory remains a key point of contention in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Russian authorities have expressed readiness to create a demilitarized zone in these territories with the presence of Russian patrols; however, Kyiv hopes that the U.S. will work to soften Moscow's position. According to sources from the publication, Ukrainians even created a flag and anthem for "Donnyland" using artificial intelligence. It is unknown whether these attributes were presented to the American side. At the end of February, negotiations stalled due to territorial disagreements. With the onset of the war between the U.S. and Israel against Iran, the attention of the American delegation has mostly shifted to this conflict.
