The Jurassic Period Festival Will Be Held in Latvia for the First Time

The show will feature 15 sculptors from ten countries, the municipality of the city reported. These are masters from Turkey, the USA, Ukraine, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, the Netherlands, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. They will create sculptures on a given theme, which is a fertile one: the Jurassic Period, the very era a couple of hundred million years ago when deinonychuses and triceratops roamed the Earth, and the first birds — pterodactyls — soared in the sky: those flying mini-dragons with teeth and claws at the ends of their wings. The plant world was more modest: horsetails and ferns, but everything was gigantic. So sculptors, working with such a fragile material as sand, will inevitably have to become monumentalists. In addition to the competition sculptures, visitors will be able to see a demonstration work titled "Gathering of Dinosaurs," as well as sculptural installations at the entrance to the festival area.
