The coin features the so-called "glittering wreath" — a luxurious wedding headdress used by brides in South Kurzeme during the 19th century. Such wreaths were considered expensive and valuable, so they were often rented, and one decoration could be used by several brides at once. In Latvian wedding traditions, the wreath symbolized the girl's transition to a new status — that of a wife. During the wedding ceremony, the bride seemed to transition from one world to another, which is why the headdress played an important symbolic and protective role. The design of the coin was created by artist Dace Liela, while the plastic solution was developed by Ligita Franckeviča. The authors aimed to convey the sparkle and lightness of the antique decoration — which is why crystals were added to the design. The nominal value of the coin will be 5 euros, and it is made of 999 silver. The weight of the coin is 22 grams, and the mintage is limited to 3,000 pieces. The minting was done at the Lithuanian Mint. The collectible coin will be available for purchase starting May 21 on the website e-monetas.lv. The price is 120 euros, and each buyer will be allowed to purchase no more than three pieces. Collectible coins from the Bank of Latvia regularly receive international awards and are considered some of the most artistic in Europe. For example, the Latvian "Honey Coin" previously gained worldwide recognition, becoming the "Coin of the Year" at the international Coin of the Year competition.
