The leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, urged the citizens of Armenia to "be very careful, so that, God forbid, they do not repeat what happened in Ukraine" ahead of the parliamentary elections in their country. His words at the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) summit in Astana on May 29 were reported by the Telegram channel "Pool of the First" on Sunday, May 31. "In Ukraine, it started exactly like this," Lukashenko said, echoing a statement by Vladimir Putin. At a press conference in Astana, Putin claimed that the crisis in Ukraine once began with attempts by Kyiv to join the EU, which Yerevan is now also striving for. The Belarusian leader suggested that the citizens of Armenia "think very seriously" before moving closer to the EU at the expense of the EAEU: "That is the only thing I urge them to do. If the people express their opinion, we will agree with it. ## Armenian Deputy Prime Minister on the Choice Between the EU and the EAEU "When it comes to the point where this question arises, then there will be specifics regarding this issue, and we will conduct stress tests if necessary. Right now, we are simply not considering such a scenario," said Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mger Grigoryan in Astana about the choice between the EU and the EAEU. Earlier that day, the leaders of the EAEU member states demanded that Armenia hold a referendum on the choice between joining the European Union and maintaining membership in the EAEU, which, in addition to Russia and Armenia, includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Vladimir Putin threatened Yerevan with economic consequences if it breaks relations with the EAEU.
