For four decades, "Vopli Vidopliassova" (VV) has maintained its status as one of the most influential and powerful bands in the rock music of Eastern Europe. They have created a unique genre where the wild energy of rock and roll merges with the deep traditions of Ukrainian folk and ethnic motifs. The band's frontman, multi-instrumentalist, and opinion leader Oleg Skrypka is a true whirlwind on stage, whose vocals and performance on the bayan leave no listener indifferent. Skrypka is also the founder of the "Kraїna Mriy" festival - one of the most influential cultural platforms in Ukraine, which has been shaping the Ukrainian music scene and the self-awareness of youth for decades. "Vopli Vidopliassova" has etched its name in history with timeless hits such as "Vesna", "Tantsi", "Halia, khody", "Den narodzhennia", which have become anthems for several generations that Ukrainians sing in every corner of the world. The band's performance history includes stages of prestigious festivals such as WOMAD, Montreux Jazz Festival, Sziget, and Rock am Ring. Their music has inspired an entire generation, including the frontman of Gogol Bordello, Eugene Hudz, who publicly calls VV his main teachers. Since February 2022, "Vopli Vidopliassova" has known no rest as they are constantly on the move. The band actively tours around the world, raising funds to support defenders of Ukraine and refugees, as well as giving concerts on the front lines. In 2025, their North American tour sold out in 15 cities from New York to Los Angeles. In turn, in 2026, VV performed at the prestigious global FEST festival in New York as ambassadors of Ukrainian culture. On the opening night of the festival at the "Dzintari" concert hall on July 24, VV will perform accompanied by the festival orchestra - this will be a unique meeting where the youth and energy of ethno-rock will gain a new scale. This will not only be a musical triumph but also a powerful manifesto of solidarity and freedom. "Our festival has always gathered artists with a unique inner core and genuine charisma. Oleg Skrypka and his team are the perfect example of how rock music can unite, inspire, and carry a powerful humanitarian message," notes Laima Vaikule, the founder and muse of the festival. The Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala 2026 festival will take place from July 24 to 26 at the "Dzintari" concert hall. Over three days, 45 artists from more than 20 countries will take the stage, and each evening will feature premieres, unexpected duets, and surprises.
