Google has expanded the capabilities of its mapping service with the help of a flight simulator, Mustafin Magazine reports. An experimental tool called "Flight Simulation" has been integrated into the browser version of Google Earth. With it, users can control an aircraft while exploring three-dimensional models of cities and satellite images of the planet from above. To activate the mode, you need to open the service in a browser, go to the research panel tab at the top of the screen, open the tools menu, and select the simulation option. Control of the aircraft is done using the keyboard and mouse: scrolling the wheel adjusts the engine thrust, while the arrow keys control turns, ascent, and descent. Developers emphasize that the project is in the preliminary testing stage and uses a simplified physics model aimed at map exploration rather than professional pilot training. Detailed satellite images and three-dimensional objects are loaded from the network in real time, and there may be delays in texture display at high speeds or with a weak internet connection. In the event of a collision with the ground, the simulation automatically stops, after which the aircraft can be returned to a safe altitude using the restart button.
