Instead of buying a new phone that imitates classic "button phones," you can restore the original with updated internals. This conclusion was reached by an enthusiast on Reddit who is creating a new motherboard for the iconic Nokia 3210 model from 1999. Thanks to this modernization, the device will retain the original buttons, casing, and monochrome screen, while also incorporating support for modern technologies, including 4G connectivity and compatibility with current batteries, writes GRY-Online. The Nokia 3210 is considered one of the most recognizable mobile phones in history. At the time, it was a dream for both adults and children and became a symbol of an era when phones were primarily used for calls, messages, and simple games like "Snake." However, over time, old button phones faced a problem – the mobile networks of previous generations are gradually being shut down, making many legendary models practically useless. The new project aims to solve this issue. A Reddit user under the nickname briskspirit showcased the development of his own motherboard for the Nokia 3210. Its key feature is complete compatibility with the original phone casing, which distinguishes the development from the Nokia 3210 4G 2024, which looks nothing like the original. The most challenging part of the project is creating the software "from scratch." The enthusiast began to reproduce the original font, menu layout, and even the famous Snake game step by step. As a result, the phone will look as if it remained in 1999, but its internals will meet modern requirements. The new motherboard will receive a 4G module, allowing the phone to be used with current mobile networks. At the same time, instead of old NiMH batteries, a standard lithium-ion battery is planned to be installed, which will be easier to find and replace. The project is still in development, but the author promises to showcase the creation process and the finished result in a video. Many believe that the record for mobile phone sales belongs to Apple, but this is not the case. Despite the dominance of the iPhone in recent years, the absolute sales record is held by a button model from the early 2000s.
