According to the Central Election Commission, as of Saturday evening, **14 party lists** have been registered to participate in the elections, featuring **1434 candidates**. This means that there is currently an average of **14.3 contenders** for each of the 100 seats in the Saeima. Compared to the previous parliamentary elections, the competition has noticeably decreased. In 2022, **19 lists** and **1832 candidates** participated in the elections, with **18.3 people** competing for one parliamentary mandate. Thus, over four years, the number of candidates has decreased by almost **22%**. The highest competition is currently observed in **Zemgale**, where there are about **15.9 candidates** per seat. This is followed by **Kurzeme** (15.7) and **Latgale** (15). In **Riga**, this figure is 13.9 candidates per seat, while the lowest competition is recorded in **Vidzeme** — 13.3. Although Riga lags behind several regions in terms of competition density, it is where the most candidates are concentrated — **527 people** for **38 parliamentary mandates**, which is over a third of all election participants. The maximum possible lists — with **125 candidates** each — have been presented by seven political forces, including "New Unity", the National Alliance, the Union of Greens and Farmers, "Latvia First", "Progressives", the "United List", and "Sovereign Power / Union of Young Latvians". Other parties have nominated fewer candidates. For example, the party "Stabilitātei!" has registered 60 people, while the "Gobzem's List" has 73. Statistics also show that men still dominate among the candidates. Women make up **34%** of all candidates for parliamentary mandates, while in the last elections their share exceeded 36%. Most candidates have higher education — nearly **79%**. About one-fifth indicated secondary education, while less than two percent of election participants have basic education. According to the CEC, **74.3%** of candidates identified their nationality as Latvian, **7.6%** as Russian, and about **15%** preferred not to specify their nationality. More than a third of all candidates reside in Riga. Meanwhile, five candidates for seats in the Saeima have no registered place of residence in Latvia. The acceptance of candidate lists will conclude on **July 5**. The elections for the **15th Saeima** will take place on **October 3**.
