Prince Harry will travel to the UK without his wife and children. It has been reported that the Duchess of Sussex Meghan, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet have decided not to go to London due to the unresolved issue of state protection. At the same time, a final decision regarding the family's participation in events outside the British capital has not yet been made. It is possible that Meghan and the children will still join Harry in other regions of the country. The Duke of Sussex had hoped that his family would accompany him during his five-day trip. However, he still considers the current security measures inadequate, as after stepping back from royal duties in 2020, state police protection is no longer automatically provided to them. Harry has sought a review of this decision and has formally requested police protection during his current visit, but has not received a positive response. A representative of the duke informed the press that the security service continues to look for options that would allow the family to travel in a safe manner. The main goal of Harry's visit will be to mark the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will take place in Birmingham. Additionally, he has scheduled meetings in the Midlands region related to charitable projects. In recent days, the issue of the family's accommodation in the UK has also been discussed. It was previously reported that the Sussexes could stay either in a private residence or in one of the royal palaces. However, Buckingham Palace later stated that it did not have information on whether Harry and Meghan accepted King Charles III's invitation. According to a representative of the prince, the issue is not about the place of residence. "A safe place of residence is just one element of an effective security plan. The risk is associated with the person, not the place," he stated. The representative also noted that the independent risk assessment council, which the RAVEC committee recognized as necessary last year, has still not held the relevant meeting. The British government, in turn, states that the current security system remains "strict and proportionate," emphasizing that details of such measures are not disclosed for security reasons. Harry and Meghan have been living in California since 2020, after stepping back from royal duties. Since then, the couple's relationship with the British monarchy has remained strained, although in recent months there have been signs of a gradual restoration of contact between Harry and King Charles III. The upcoming visit could have been a rare opportunity for the king to see his grandchildren again, but now this meeting is likely to be postponed once more. The issue of security remains the main obstacle to the joint travels of Prince Harry's family to the UK and continues to complicate his relations with the British authorities.
