**What is remembered in the Church on July 5, 2026** Eusebius was the Bishop of Samatha and fought against heresies, defending the true Orthodoxy established at the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea. He repeatedly suffered persecution for this but was not afraid to stand against the emperor. Once, Constantius demanded that Eusebius hand over a church document that contradicted the desires of heretically inclined segments of society and threatened to cut off his hand if he did not comply. To this, Eusebius extended both hands, saying, “Cut them off, but I will not give you the document.” The emperor was astonished and retreated. After the death of Constantius, Emperor Julian the Apostate behaved differently. When Eusebius, concealing his rank, went to preach true Orthodoxy through Syria, Phoenicia, and Palestine in ordinary clothing, he was attempted to be captured. But by God's providence, Eusebius remained unharmed, spreading the faith and appointing new fellow priests in vacant churches. The deceased Julian was succeeded by Emperor Jovian, who professed the true faith. A Local Council was convened in Antioch, which confirmed the postulates of Nicaea, and everyone, including the Arian dissenting priests, signed its documents. Eusebius, Pelagius, and the archbishop Meletius, who returned from long exile, had too great an authority. But then another persecutor of the faith, Emperor Valentinian, ascended the throne. He exiled Meletius and Pelagius and condemned Eusebius to imprisonment. He could have escaped but preferred prison to dishonor. An Arian named Eunomius was appointed to the Samatha see in place of Eusebius, but the flock did not accept him. By that time, the ruler had changed again; the new Emperor Gratian returned all the wronged hierarchs to their places. But then an assassination attempt was made on Eusebius — an Arian woman dropped a tile on his head from the roof. Before his death, he forgave her, as befits a true Christian. His body was buried in Samatha. **The meaning of the holiday** Thanks to the efforts of the saint and his deeds, Orthodoxy was strengthened and remained united. This important step helps us now to remain in the faith of our ancestors. **What can be done on July 5, 2026** - It is customary to clean the summer cottage, including cleaning ditches and wells. - A great day for swimming and bathing. - A wonderful day to invite someone you like on a date. - After lunch, it will be time to make decisions on important matters. - Time to make brooms for the bath. - Time to clean the apartment. - A great day to start traveling. - A wonderful day for long walks. **What cannot be done on July 5, 2026** - No important issues should be resolved before lunch. - No major purchases should be made. - Do not succumb to the persuasion of others on any occasion. - Be extremely cautious while driving.
