From June 22 to June 28, the number of deaths at home surged by 91%, and residents of nursing homes and hospitals also fell victim to the abnormal heat. Officials suggest that the final figures may be higher. The Belgian Ministry of Health recorded about 1,200 deaths from June 18 to June 29. Of these, 530 cases involved people over 85 years old, while 180 were under 65. In the Netherlands, approximately 480 people died due to the weather anomaly, mostly those over 80 years old. The "heat dome" has left Europe but has settled over the central and eastern parts of the United States. Due to temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, several cities in the country altered their programs for celebrating Independence Day on July 4.
