Russian troops attacked the Ukrainian capital on Monday night using ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as strike drones. According to Ukrainian authorities, the attack continued into the morning. One of the most affected areas was the Podil district of Kyiv, where a residential building partially collapsed. This was reported by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachенко. Severe damage was also recorded in the Darnytsia district. Several multi-story buildings were damaged, and preliminary data suggests that people may be trapped under the rubble. "These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their normal lives," Tkachенко noted. Rescue services continue to work at the strike sites, so the number of dead and injured may change as the debris is cleared. The attack occurred just a few days after a previous large-scale strike on Kyiv, which, according to Ukrainian authorities, resulted in at least 31 deaths. Thus, the capital of Ukraine once again found itself under one of the heaviest bombardments in recent days. Just a few hours before the current attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of the possibility of a new massive strike. On Sunday evening, he once again appealed to Western allies to strengthen Ukraine's air defense system, including through additional supplies of Patriot missile systems. Rescue operations in Kyiv are ongoing, and authorities are clarifying information about the consequences of the night strike.
