The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) firmly condemns the decisions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) aimed at restoring the status and participation of the Olympic Committees of Russia and Belarus, as reported by bb.lv from the Latvian committee. Despite the fact that Russia was forced to exclude the occupied territories from its Olympic committee, which can be considered progress and evidence of a change in the aggressor state's policy on territorial issues to some extent, the LOC categorically disagrees with the lifting of existing restrictions on athletes from aggressor countries across the entire international sports community, especially ahead of the qualification competitions for the 2028 Olympics. The LOC hopes that the international sports federations, which are now responsible for making further decisions and developing specific rules, will not allow such athletes to participate in international competitions. It is already known that several influential international federations have openly and unequivocally stated their negative position, the LOC reported. They stated: the position of the LOC remains firm and unchanged – the organization does not support decisions and compromises that contradict the fundamental values of the Olympic movement in the current geopolitical situation and may be perceived as a step towards normalizing aggression. The Latvian Olympic Committee will continue to consistently uphold the principles of humanity and fair sports competition, express solidarity with the Ukrainian Olympic Committee and the Baltic countries, and coordinate joint actions in close cooperation with the national Olympic committees of other states. **For reference:** The International Olympic Committee today temporarily lifted the suspension of the Olympic Committee of Russia and recommended that international sports federations remove all restrictions on Russian athletes, as reported on the organization's website. At the same time, the IOC will still not organize events in Russia and will not invite Russian officials to its events.
