Today, a symbolic handover of the building to the construction workers took place at the LOC building on Hippocrates Street, 4. Vadim Belyun, Chairman of the Board of the Eastern Hospital, noted at the event that during the relocation of the departments, continuity of patient care was ensured. The hospital's goal is to transfer oncology patients back to the already renovated premises of the LOC by autumn 2028. It is planned that the main reconstruction work will begin in the second half of 2026, with project completion scheduled for the first half of 2028. The commissioning of the premises will occur gradually: first, the operating block and intensive care unit will be completed, followed by the other inpatient departments. The reconstruction will cover ten floors of the building and an area of 23,000 square meters. The contractual price for construction work is €52.6 million excluding value-added tax, and an additional €12 million will be required for the purchase and installation of equipment. During the reconstruction, the center plans to create eight operating rooms in the new operating block, six new level 3 intensive care beds, and over 300 new beds in the departments. After reconstruction, the center will have ten departments. The project also includes new electrical network connections, upgrading and expanding the special sewage system, reconstructing elevators, and organizing patient, staff, and infection control flows. Health Minister Hosam Abu Meri noted at the event that it is important for patients with cancer diagnoses to receive not only care and medications in a timely manner but also to undergo treatment in appropriate conditions. The minister promised that at the upcoming autumn negotiations on the state budget for 2027, he would do everything possible to secure the necessary funding to achieve oncology goals. Another priority will be to increase nurses' salaries, including chemotherapy nurses. The construction work for the reconstruction of the LOC will be carried out by the consortium "Newcom-Citrus," which includes the companies "Citrus Solutions" and "Newcom Construction." The oncology center building was commissioned in 1984 and no longer meets modern requirements for treatment, safety, patient flow organization, the condition of engineering systems, as well as European standards for oncology care. The goal of the reconstruction is to provide oncology patients with a modern, safe, and comfortable environment.
