Давид Солунский

**What is remembered in the Church on July 9, 2026** David lived in the late 5th – early 6th centuries in Greece. He early on embarked on a spiritual path and labored in the monastery of Saints Theodore and Mercurius. He then left there, wishing to lead a hermitic life. He built a hut under an almond tree near the city of Thessalonica (now Thessaloniki) and lived there for 70 years. He constantly observed fasting, endured frost and heat, and prayed continuously. For this, he received from the Lord the gift of miracles and the ability to heal. People constantly came to him, and he gave each of them important instructions regarding their future lives. His prayerful state brought him to a condition of complete apathy, he became like an angel in the flesh and could, for example, take coals in his bare hands. He passed away peacefully in 540 under his beloved almond tree. **The meaning of the holiday** This saint showed everyone that asceticism and prayers can grant some angelic abilities even during one’s lifetime. **What can be done on July 9** — It would be good to clean the house. — One should be attentive to expenses. **What cannot be done on July 9, 2026** — Women cannot wash their faces with tap water. — One cannot ask for or borrow money — it will be difficult to return it. — One cannot get married or ask for a hand in marriage. — One cannot try on someone else's jewelry, especially rings.
