Italy is expelling two Russian military attachés on suspicion of espionage. Ivan Gorbachyov and Mikhail Astakhov must leave the country within three days. "Moscow continues to use hybrid warfare methods against the West and Italy. This is a serious and unacceptable interference in the work of Italian institutions and national security," said Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The expulsion followed the detention of two former employees of the Italian intelligence services. According to the investigation, one of them - a former intelligence officer - had been passing information obtained from sources linked to the Italian armed forces to representatives of Russia for several years. Italian media report that the information passed included details about the SAMP/T air defense system and Aster missiles supplied to Ukraine. The Russians were also interested in information about NATO's mission in Bulgaria and the company Avio, which produces engines for drones and supersonic missiles. Investigators claim that the suspect received money for his cooperation and transmitted information over a period of 12 years. His lawyer denies the charges of treason and insists that the information was exclusively from open sources. Moscow has already promised to give a "corresponding response" to Rome's decision. Russian Ambassador Sergey Paramonov stated that the Italian authorities are striving to limit Russia's influence in the country.
