Победители фестиваля молодежного предпринимательства GEN-E

This year, the winner of the competition for the best school enterprise in Europe is the Slovak startup Lipigo. This was announced by the educational organization Junior Achievement Latvia. The jury highly appreciated the team's development — a glue for children made from food ingredients. It is completely safe for health even if accidentally swallowed, easily washable with water, and considered an eco-friendly alternative to traditional adhesive materials for schools and families. This week, Latvia hosted the largest European youth entrepreneurship festival GEN-E for the first time, gathering 59 of the strongest school and student startups from 39 countries. Over several days, participants presented their business ideas to an international jury and competed for the title of the best in Europe. The creators of Lipigo stated that their main goal was to develop a product that is truly beneficial to society while also testing their own entrepreneurial skills. In the future, the team plans to grow the business and expand into foreign markets. In the student startup category, the winner was the Dutch project Verdiax, which developed biodegradable eco-friendly absorbent materials for the funeral industry that are intended to replace the plastic products currently in use. During the competition, awards for innovation were also presented. Among school projects, the Norwegian startup Moore UB won for creating a technology for reading data from ship ropes. In the student category, the best innovative project was recognized as the Cypriot company Livia, which developed a platform based on artificial intelligence and satellite data for monitoring agricultural crops and yields. Latvia was represented at the festival by the school startup Heatify from the Daugavpils Secondary School of Natural Sciences. The team developed an innovative crypto boiler that uses heat generated during cryptocurrency mining to heat homes and small businesses. The Chairwoman of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Katrīna Zariņa, noted that hosting a festival of this scale confirms Latvia's status as a reliable partner for implementing international projects in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. As part of the festival, young entrepreneurs presented developments in sustainable development, healthcare, technology, education, and social entrepreneurship. The program included a startup exhibition, project presentations, discussions with experts, and meetings with potential investors. The holding of the GEN-E festival in Riga not only became a platform for showcasing the best youth startups in Europe but also an opportunity to introduce hundreds of foreign guests to Latvia, its business environment, and its potential as a venue for international events and the development of innovative businesses.
