Political scientist, professor at the University of Latvia, Janis Ikstens, responded on the social network X to the statement of the Minister of Education, Ilze Indrikson (National Alliance), that universities should focus more on students from EU, OECD, and NATO countries. "The readiness of students to study in Latvia could be confirmed by introducing international entrance exams, where applicants would also validate their knowledge of the English language," the minister suggested. "If the state properly financed its own universities (established by the state), then such rules could be established," the lecturer logically noted, suggesting that universities would likely ignore the minister's recommendations.
