Many are concerned about the sugar found in fruits; however, as specialists note, the problem often lies not in the fruits themselves, but in their combination with fatty foods. According to gastroenterologist Sergey Karaulov, the combination of simple sugars and a large amount of fats is considered one of the most unfavorable for the body. "Not all foods should be consumed together. Sometimes familiar combinations not only do not bring benefits but can also be harmful. One such combination is sugar and fat," explains the doctor. ### Who Should Be Especially Cautious Such combinations pose the greatest danger to people with insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and a tendency to obesity. When fats and fast carbohydrates enter the body simultaneously, the load on the pancreas significantly increases, and the blood glucose level rises more quickly. "Sugar masks the fat content of food, so a person can eat significantly more than planned. Such combinations as fast food and sweet soda or bread with butter and jam are particularly dangerous," says Sergey Karaulov. According to the specialist, it is precisely such combinations that more often contribute to weight gain. ### Why Fat and Sugar Together Is a Bad Idea The doctor explains that an excess of fats in the blood worsens the transportation of glucose to the cells. As a result, sugar remains in the bloodstream longer, raising glucose levels. Moreover, free fatty acids reduce tissue sensitivity to insulin, disrupting normal metabolism. "Therefore, sweet and fatty foods separately are often less harmful than their combination in one meal," notes the gastroenterologist. ### What About Yogurt with Banana? According to the specialist, it is the combination of fruits with fatty and protein-rich products that can cause unpleasant sensations in the gastrointestinal tract. Fruits are digested significantly faster than foods rich in fats and proteins. If consumed simultaneously, fermentation processes may intensify in the intestines. "Therefore, Greek yogurt with banana is not the best snack option. It is better to eat the fruit 30–40 minutes before a more calorie-dense meal or one and a half to two hours after the main meal," recommends the doctor. ### How to Make Your Diet Healthier To maintain normal glucose levels, specialists advise reducing saturated fats and opting for products containing monounsaturated fatty acids. These are found in: * olive oil; * avocados; * nuts; * seeds. Fruits, especially sweet ones, according to the doctor, are better consumed separately from cereals, cottage cheese, fatty dairy products, and other calorie-dense dishes. Specialists emphasize: this is not about completely giving up bananas, yogurt, or other healthy foods. It is more important to consider not only the composition of the diet but also the combination of foods in one meal. People with diabetes, insulin resistance, and excess weight should pay particular attention to such combinations. For healthy individuals, moderate consumption of natural yogurt with fruits usually poses no danger; however, in the presence of diseases, dietary recommendations are best discussed with a treating physician.
