Schools should enhance the content of the family health course, paying more attention to relationship building, behavior culture, and cooperation skills. This opinion was expressed by the new Minister of Education and Science Ilze Indriksonе (National Alliance). The politician noted that the subject of family health concerns not only physical health but also how we communicate with each other, build relationships, and cooperate. According to her, developing social skills in children will help reduce the level of violence, rather than just combating its consequences. At the same time, Indriksonе emphasized that the primary responsibility for raising a child lies with the family, although the school also plays an important role in developing these qualities. It is still unknown whether this discipline will become a separate subject, as previously suggested. According to the minister, it is first necessary to assess how to most effectively integrate these topics into the existing education system. Speaking about the upbringing of values, Indriksonе believes that the preamble of the Constitution of Latvia (Satversme) should serve as the foundation. In her opinion, it already formulates a vision for the development of the state, including Latvian traditions, Christian values, societal well-being, respect for nature, and support for people in difficult life situations. "We don’t need to reinvent the wheel — everything necessary is already there," the minister stated. Additionally, Indriksonе considers it necessary to review the implementation of the competency-based approach within the framework of the "School 2030" reform to more clearly define what knowledge and skills students should acquire at different stages of education. In her opinion, more attention should also be paid to the study of Latvian history, as the knowledge of young people in this area, in her assessment, is insufficient.
