Interesting Facts The history of this dish is intriguing. It was originally called «Veau Orloff» in honor of Count Orlov, who visited France. Then the name changed to the one we are familiar with — meat à la française. The original recipe included veal, mushrooms, onions, béchamel sauce, and of course, potatoes. Today, other ingredients are used: pork, sour cream instead of sauce, and sometimes mushrooms are not added. There are various versions of French-style potatoes: homemade meat, captain's style, «Surprise», or «Diplomat». Interestingly, French-style potatoes do not exist in France! Except in the Alsace region, there is a dish that includes potatoes, meat, carrots, and onions, but without cheese and sour cream. This dish is called baeckeoffe and is topped with pears. Potatoes with meat have become part of our culture. This is not only historically interesting but also delicious. So how do you prepare it? French-Style Potatoes Recipe Ingredients: six potatoes; three hundred grams of pork; two onions; two cloves of garlic; two tomatoes; hard grated cheese; pepper, salt, curry — to taste. Preparation: Cut the pork into large strips. Cut the potatoes into wedges. Dice the garlic and onions. In a hot skillet, fry the pork, adding a little vegetable oil. Add the potatoes and seasonings to the pork. Stir and fry until the potatoes are half-cooked, stirring occasionally. Add the diced onions and garlic to the pork and potatoes. Stir and fry for another five minutes. Then chop the two tomatoes coarsely and add them to the other ingredients. Sprinkle with grated cheese, cover with a lid, and wait five minutes for the cheese to melt. French-style potatoes are ready! Enjoy your meal!
