"I saw this picture in the store and became curious about how this is possible. In the Mix Markt store on Deglava Street, sour cream with a rather unusual name - Milочка - is sold. As far as I understand, it is produced in Germany for export, but a white label with the inscription 'Sour Cream ZELTA 20%' is stuck on the packaging, indicating that the product is made at Jaunpils pienotava in the Tukums region," said a viewer. On the shelf with dairy products, journalists from 'Bez Tabu' indeed found the mentioned sour cream. The packaging features a name in Russian, alongside a phrase in German, but the country of production is indicated as Latvia. Using a hidden camera, journalists sought explanations from the seller. She tried to explain where the product was made and stated that the country of manufacture is Latvia. However, the cashier categorically replied that the product is not Latvian. The manufacturer of the sour cream is indicated as Jaunpils pienotava on the packaging. Representatives of the company declined to give an in-person interview, explaining that questions related to the name of the private label, brand concept, and packaging design fall under the competence of the brand owner, who is located in Germany. "The product depicted in the photo is produced at the Jaunpils pienotava facility in Latvia. It is made for partners in Germany, who own the corresponding brand and determine the product name, packaging design, and labeling. This model of cooperation is not unique - similar products under this brand are also produced in other European Union countries, including Poland and possibly Lithuania," explained Jaunpils pienotava representative Janis Bertulsons. The sour cream turned out to be not the only product in the store whose origin is not immediately clear from the packaging. Moreover, the store does not hide that it sells products imported from Russia.
