Портфели министерских чиновников

Interestingly, the Minister of Climate and Energy, Janis Vitenbergs (National Alliance), not only supports the liquidation of the ministry he leads but also initiated this proposal himself! What won’t you do when elections are just around the corner! "The National Alliance proposes to create a Ministry of National Economy, which would merge the Ministry of Climate and Energy, the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development, and the Ministry of Economics. According to the party, concentrating the policies of economy, energy, and regional development in one ministry would allow for faster and more coordinated decision-making. There is a shared understanding within the coalition that the existing model of ministries needs to be evaluated and that the functions of the ministries could potentially be organized more efficiently. The National Alliance calls for the creation of a more compact, results-oriented public administration... This will also send a clear signal to entrepreneurs and society that public administration is capable of change," emphasized Minister of Climate and Energy Janis Vitenbergs (National Alliance). "In my opinion, the reform would bring many benefits. Within a single ministry, the document flow would be accelerated and the coordination of decisions improved. The reform would ensure a closer connection between economic development and regional policy, as well as a more rational organization of environmental protection and ecological policy..." Vitenbergs noted in his statement that the Ministry of Climate and Energy he heads was created to address specific, time-limited tasks - to strengthen Latvia's energy security, ensure disconnection from Russian energy supply, and streamline the regulation of renewable energy resources. "These tasks need to continue to be fulfilled, but this does not mean that these functions require a separate ministry in the long term. In our view, it is time to look at public administration as a whole. Energy policy should be closely linked to economic development, the competitiveness of entrepreneurship, and regional development. If state expenditures are being reviewed, now is the time to assess the structure of ministries and form a more compact, effective public administration," noted Janis Vitenbergs. The National Alliance plans to initiate the discussion of this issue at the upcoming coalition meeting. The National Alliance proposes to instruct the State Chancellery to prepare the most optimal scenario for merging the functions of the ministries by September 29.
