In May, 947 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 3.1%, or 30 fewer than in the corresponding month of 2025, including 477 boys and 470 girls. In the first five months of this year, 11,448 deaths were registered in Latvia, which is 1.9%, or 215 more than in the first five months of 2025, when 11,233 deaths were recorded. Thus, in the first five months of this year, the number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 6,859, or more than double! In the first five months of 2026, 2,396 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 19.8%, or 591 marriages fewer compared to the corresponding period of 2025.
