Leaders of Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland have recently repeatedly spoken about warnings from Western intelligence agencies regarding Russia's plans for provocations and attacks on energy infrastructure in the region. In response to a question from Reuters about whether security has been enhanced in Latvia due to such risks, Kulbergs replied: "Of course, in Inčukalns [gas storage], at our energy sector enterprises, and certainly at hydroelectric power stations." Kulbergs also stated that during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, he asked the alliance to strengthen air defense and increase the number of troops in Latvia. He also expressed a request for faster integration of drone defense systems developed by Latvia in cooperation with Ukraine into NATO defense systems. He also mentioned that the Latvian government is preparing for possible provocations from Russia aimed at interfering in the upcoming parliamentary elections in October. Kulbergs also reported that in his conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, he asked the alliance to improve air defense and increase the number of troops in Latvia. He also requested the rapid integration of drone defense systems developed by Latvia in cooperation with Ukraine into NATO defense systems.
