A major fire in southern Norway has already destroyed more than 100 residential homes, and several hundred people have been forced to evacuate. This was reported by representatives of the rescue services. The fire broke out in Kroksdal, located in the municipality of Drammen about 50 kilometers west of Oslo. According to the latest information, efforts to extinguish the blaze have not yet been successful. Around 80 firefighters are working on-site, and six helicopters are combating the fire from the air. According to a police representative, the fire continues to spread southward towards forested areas. This increases the risk that the blaze could escalate into a large forest fire. For the residents of the area, safety remains the main priority. That is why authorities decided to evacuate several hundred people before the fire approached new residential neighborhoods. Currently, only one local resident is known to have been injured, requiring medical assistance after smoke inhalation. A firefighter also sustained minor injuries. Rescue services report that there have been no reports of missing persons. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Specialists will be able to begin investigating it once the fire is contained. While the fight against the flames continues, rescuers are trying to prevent the further spread of the fire to forested areas.
