The University of Latvia Botanical Garden will host the "Perseid Night" event for the second time on August 13, combining the observation of one of the brightest meteor showers of the year with an outdoor music program. As noted by the Botanical Garden representative Signe Nigale, the first such meeting took place last year and attracted over 700 visitors. The organizers decided to make the event an annual tradition. One of the main advantages of the venue is the absence of street lighting. This makes the spacious meadow of the Botanical Garden one of the few places in Riga where one can comfortably observe the night sky and the meteor shower without leaving the city. The evening will begin with a lecture by University of Latvia astronomer Vitalijs Kuzmovs. He will discuss the most interesting astronomical phenomena of this summer and explain what can be seen on the night of the Perseids. After that, visitors will be able to take a tour of the constellations and observe the sky through telescopes. Even those who have never been interested in astronomy before will find the event suitable: specialists will help locate the most prominent objects in the sky and explain the meteor shower in simple terms. The highlight of the evening will be a special concert program by pianist Reinis Zarins. According to the organizers, the music of composers from different eras will be combined into a single night journey, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and contemplation. Guests are advised to bring a warm blanket, sleeping bag or folding chair, picnic basket or thermos, mosquito repellent, and, if desired, their own telescope. There will be a designated area for wheelchair users, and refreshment stands will be available throughout the evening. Thus, the "Perseid Night" will combine several formats — an educational event, an outdoor concert, and the opportunity to witness one of the most famous meteor showers of the year.
