When a smartphone starts to work slower, many users completely turn it off, hoping to clear the system and improve performance. However, as the publication **BGR** writes, there is virtually no significant difference between turning it off and a regular restart. When fully turned off, the smartphone closes all applications and background processes, after which it restarts the operating system and all services upon being turned back on. Almost the same thing happens during a restart—the only difference is that the device automatically turns back on immediately after shutting down. Experts emphasize that turning off the device does not clear the RAM more effectively and does not provide any additional system optimization. That is why specialists recommend limiting oneself to a restart in most cases. It takes less time, quickly restarts all processes, and helps eliminate minor software glitches. There is no universal rule for how often one should restart a smartphone. It all depends on the intensity of device usage and the number of installed applications. Nevertheless, periodic restarts help maintain stable operation of the gadget. It makes sense to completely turn off the smartphone in a few cases. Firstly, if it is necessary to conserve battery charge as much as possible. However, specialists note that the difference between a turned-off phone and a device in sleep mode is usually only a few percent. Significant savings are noticeable only if the smartphone remains turned off for at least eight hours. Secondly, turning it off is beneficial in case of device overheating. If the smartphone has heated up significantly after gaming, working with heavy applications, or prolonged exposure to the sun, a complete shutdown helps it cool down faster, as all processes are completely halted. Additionally, specialists recommend fully turning off the phone before repairs, battery replacements, or initiating special service modes such as Android Recovery. If the smartphone has started to work slower, in most cases a regular restart is sufficient. Complete shutdown should only be used when it is necessary to cool the device, prepare it for repairs, or leave it inactive for an extended period.
