This is expected to be unproblematic, as the Prime Minister's Tisza party holds a constitutional majority. 49-year-old Judit Polgar is considered the strongest female chess player in history. At 15, she became the youngest grandmaster in the world and then held the top position in the women's world ranking for 26 years. After retiring from professional chess over ten years ago, Polgar continued to actively promote the game, but she has never worked in politics before. The need for a new president arose after Tamás Suyok resigned on Saturday. Shortly before that, he signed amendments to the Constitution that prematurely ended his term. Suyok was considered an ally of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. After Péter Magyar's victory in the elections, he initially refused to leave his post, but later resigned to avoid impeachment proceedings. If Judit Polgar agrees to accept the Prime Minister's offer and her candidacy is approved by parliament, Hungary will have a president who comes to high politics from the world of professional chess for the first time.
