According to Latvian Television (LTV), pneumatic weapons were discovered during a search of Ragainis' home. The investigative actions were conducted as part of a European Prosecutor's Office investigation into possible corruption violations related to the construction of a flood protection dam in Jekabpils. The mayor stated that he has been a hunter for many years and kept the pneumatic weapon in a safe along with a hunting rifle for which he has all the necessary permits. Ragainis claims that he bought this weapon about two decades ago and was confident that its storage did not require a separate permit. The politician also mentioned that the criminal case will likely be processed in court in the usual manner. He does not intend to reach an agreement with the prosecutor's office regarding punishment, as this would mean he would have to immediately resign from his position as mayor. This accusation is not directly related to the investigation of possible corruption violations in the construction of the protective dam. However, it was during the investigative activities related to this case that law enforcement officers discovered the pneumatic weapon. It is worth noting that in 2025, five people were detained as part of the investigation into the construction of the flood protection dam in Jekabpils, including Raivis Ragainis.
