Many commentators admitted that such an amount has long become familiar. According to them, even if you only go to the store for bread, milk, and cottage cheese, it easily adds up to 15–20 euros at the checkout, while a full grocery shopping trip costs already 50–100 euros. Families with children particularly feel the burden of these expenses. Some note that 50 euros is only enough for a few days, while residents of the regions claim that life outside of Riga is not cheaper at all: going to the store without 30–40 euros is practically pointless. However, there are those who believe that much depends on planning purchases. In their opinion, significant savings can be achieved by making a list in advance, avoiding spontaneous purchases, and forgoing alcohol and other non-essential items. Those living abroad also joined the discussion. Some consider Latvian prices quite moderate compared to the USA, while others note that the cost of groceries today is comparable to many countries in the European Union.
