A lower court previously fined the politician €5,000; however, prosecutor Justas Laucius demanded to increase the amount tenfold — to €52,250. Judge Vitalija Norkunaite stated that the leader of the "Dawn of Nyamunas" party "grossly belittled the genocide of the Jewish people, the Holocaust, and committed a prolonged criminal act." The decision takes effect from the day it is announced but can be appealed in cassation. As reported by BNS, in December last year, the Vilnius District Court found that the parliamentarian "publicly mocked, spoke contemptuously, and incited hatred against a group of people and individuals belonging to it because of their Jewish nationality," as well as denying the Holocaust. The criminal case against the parliamentarian was initiated due to his publications about Jews on the social network Facebook in May and June 2023, as well as public statements. Among other things, he referred to Israel as "cattle" and claimed that Jews contributed to the destruction of the Lithuanian people. Due to the mentioned publications, impeachment proceedings were also initiated against the politician. In April last year, the Constitutional Court found that he violated his oath and grossly violated the Constitution. Following this decision, Jamaitaitis resigned from his parliamentary mandate to be able to run in the presidential and parliamentary elections. In the fall of 2024, he was re-elected to the Seimas.
