He emphasized that the airline is strategically important for Latvia and that "airBaltic" needs to be given every opportunity to operate, however, the public should be informed whether such an opportunity will be provided or not. Kulbergs expressed dissatisfaction with the existing practice where a dose of state money is requested at the last moment, an "injection" occurs, and the company continues to operate. According to the Prime Minister, there should be a clear answer on whether "airBaltic" can continue to operate with orderly finances or not. In Kulbergs' opinion, it is necessary to attract an investor who would provide confidence in the company's viability without state funding. The Prime Minister expressed hope that he would soon be able to speak about this issue much more openly and in detail. As reported, "airBaltic" has been looking for opportunities to stabilize the company's financial situation for a long time, revising its business plan and attracting investors and new funding. The turnover of the "airBaltic" group last year increased by 4.2% compared to 2024, amounting to 779.344 million euros. Meanwhile, the losses of the "airBaltic" group last year were 44.337 million euros, which is 2.7 times less than in 2024. In 2025, the airline transported a total of 5.2 million passengers, which is 1% more than in 2024. Last summer, the German national airline "Lufthansa" became a shareholder of "airBaltic". Currently, the state owns 88.37% of the shares of "airBaltic", "Lufthansa" owns 10% of the shares, the financial investor Lars Tusens' company "Aircraft Leasing 1" owns 1.62%, and 0.01% is owned by other shareholders. The company's equity capital amounts to 41.819 million euros.
