At the time of recording, the future global star was still performing under the name Davy Jones. Bowie was playing in the band The Lower Third and was just beginning to find his own style. The sessions were produced by the famous Shel Talmy, who had worked with bands like The Who and The Kinks. The new record includes 22 tracks, among which are ten previously unreleased songs and demo recordings. Of particular interest is the participation of a young Jimmy Page in some of the compositions, who at that time was a sought-after session musician, as well as pianist Nicky Hopkins. Music critics note that the recordings allow listeners to hear Bowie before he became one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Although these songs are noticeably different from his later works, they help trace the creative evolution of the musician and understand how his path to global fame began. The release of the album David Bowie: The Shel Talmy Recordings is scheduled for September 18, 2026.
