Greece is launching a large-scale rearmament program worth 4.2 billion euros, the central element of which will be the creation of a modern air defense, missile defense, and anti-drone system called the 'Achilles Shield.' The project is being implemented in collaboration with Israel and Cyprus amid strained relations with Turkey, writes Tech. In particular, according to Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, the country is 'entering a new era.' The majority of the funding – about 3 billion euros – will be allocated for the purchase of Israeli components for the new defense system. ## ## What else will Greece buy In addition to the 'Achilles Shield,' Athens will significantly strengthen its armed forces. In particular, the procurement program includes: Israeli Heron drones; Brazilian military transport aircraft Embraer C-390 Millennium; Missiles for American Apache attack helicopters; Other modern weapon systems. It is noted that the new program is part of a large-scale military reform that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's government announced in 2025. Athens has called it the most significant modernization of the Greek armed forces in the country's modern history.
