As is known, yesterday activists of the youth organization "Protests," which is closely associated with the "Progressive" party, held a picket rally near the Freedom Monument. Ivars Abolins, the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Culture, reacted to one of the placards held by a participant in the picket, which read: "Nauris stinks" (see photo). It is obvious that this is a message to the Minister of Culture Nauris Puntulis. The event was dedicated to the alleged infringement of non-governmental organizations. Here is how Ivars Abolins reacted on social media: "This is what a respectful conversation and dialogue looks like in the understanding of the progressive youth organization at a rally in support of non-governmental organizations. Influential politicians from the 'Progressive' party also attended the rally, who, unfortunately, seem to think in similar categories. This is not a struggle for ideas, nor a discussion about the role of non-governmental organizations and the transparency of state finances, nor about how to make Latvia better - at the rally organized by the progressive youth organization, just disgusting slander is being poured. They demand respectful conversation from everyone else, but at the same time accuse others of lacking dialogue and even call them fascists. The demand for a decent conversation clearly does not apply to themselves.
